Akwa Ibom Council Boos Invests N100m In Education Trust Fund

Mr Alfred Charles, the Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, said the council has invested N100 million in education trust fund for the people.

Charles disclosed this to Journalists in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The Chairman said 53 students of the Council were given scholarship in its maiden scholarship awards in 2025, adding that a one year tuition fees was paid and text books given to students.

He revealed that additional 50 students will benefit from the 2026 scholarship slated for August to make it a total of 103 beneficaries.

He described the educational system as “one of the highest and most important agenda of his administration. Education is top notch in my administration.

“What the trust fund will do is to help educate our people more, the council will have a specific fund to help students who are privileged but brilliant, or their parents who are not buoyant enough to sponsor their ward education,” Charles stated.

He urged individuals who love education to also contribute or sow seeds to the education fund.

He mentioned that his administration has passed a bill mandating political office holders contribute one per cent to the trust fund.

Charles explained that the council’s education policy aligned with Gov. Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

“This year, by August precisely, we are going to set up empowerment programmes,” he said.

The Chairman said he also purchased 200 new computer systems for JAMB exams, as well as JAMB forms for over 200 indigent students of the area in 2025.

He mentioned that the council was building a market (Urua Ntakrok) in Ikot Ubo which is near completion.

He also mentioned that a landscaping and beautification project was ongoing at the council Secretariat.
