‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Monday urged religious groups in Akwa Ibom state to intensify voter sensitisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎The Akwa Ibom state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, made the appeal at a meeting with members of the Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Region 57, at the INEC state office in Uyo.

‎Effanga stated the crucial role religious institutions play in shaping public opinion and mobilising citizens.

He noted that their involvement in voter education would enhance democratic participation and promote peaceful elections.

‎”We are working with a very tight election schedule and we need groups like you to help us sensitise your members on the election procedures.

“Sensitise your members that their votes will count and they should never sell their votes for whatever reasons.”

‎The REC stated that the commission will commence revalidation of the voter register to enable them to identify the actual number of voters in the country.

‎Speaking earlier, the coordinator of the Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG) of RCCG Region 57 in Akwa Ibom state, Professor Udeme Udofia, stated that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the church and INEC to promote responsible citizenship and credible governance.

‎Udofia stated that the Directorate of Politics and Governance is a specialised unit of the RCCG, established to provide political education on governance processes, civic responsibility and voter participation among church members.
