NUJ Chairman Nsibiet John Urges Students To Uphold Good Morals, Quality Education, Sports

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has urged students of Apostolic Church Schools, Uyo, to uphold good morals, pursue quality education and actively participate in sports activities for their overall development.

Comrade John gave the charge during the school’s 2026 Annual Inter-House Sports Competition held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Cardinal Ekanem Seminary along Brooks Street Uyo.

He encouraged the students to be intentional about their academic pursuits, stressing the need for them to take their studies seriously while engaging in sporting activities to keep fit and improve their mental wellbeing.

“Take your education seriously, respect your teachers and the authority of the school, and build healthy relationships among yourselves as young individuals preparing to take up responsibilities in the future,” he said.

The NUJ chairman also commended the principal and staff of the school for instilling discipline, unity and quality education among the students, noting that such values would help shape them into responsible leaders.

Comrade John, who was pleased with the performance of the students, promised to host the winners of the competition, the Red House, and invited them to visit and play on the Union’s artificial turf football pitch.

Earlier in his remarks, the Principal of the school, Mr. Samuel U. U. Etuk, expressed delight at the large turnout of parents, staff and students at the event and appreciated guests for honouring the invitation.



He described the annual inter-house sports competition as a long-standing tradition of the school that promotes discipline, teamwork, commitment and hard work among students, while also appreciating the efforts of teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedication in preparing the students for the competition.

In his goodwill message, the PTA Chairman, Comrade Mike Etim, commended the school management for its continuous dedication and commitment to academic excellence, while urging the students to remain focused and disciplined in their studies and conduct.

At the end of the competition, Blue House took the first place, followed by the Green House in second position, Red House and Pink House finished jointly in third place, while the Yellow House came fourth.

Highpoint of the event was the decoration of the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, as the Governor of Red House.
