A five-member Caretaker Committee has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the University of Uyo Alumni Association, with a mandate to conduct elections and hand over to a new executive within 90 days.


According to a statement from the South-South Vice President, Hon. Uwem Udoma, Ph.D, FCAI, Dr. Marshal Abia will serve as Chairman, Prince Ubong Essien as Secretary, while Mrs. Mmayen Edward, Mbetobon Tom and Ernest Awakessien are members.
The Committee is tasked with restoring functional structures, rebuilding membership confidence, reactivating alumni engagement, and conducting a credible and inclusive election in line with the Association’s Constitution.


Dr. Udoma explained that the decision followed consultations with South-South stakeholders amid concerns over the Chapter’s operational effectiveness. He described the assignment as strictly transitional and corrective, emphasizing that the Committee has no mandate for long-term policy decisions.
He called on members of the Univisity of Uyo Alumni Community in Akwa Ibom State,to support the interim body, reaffirming his leadership’s commitment to strengthening all Cha bepters in the Zone and upholding accountability and institutional integrity.
