Team Edo began its quest for the gold medal in the female football category in strong and family fashion after annihilating Team Akwa Ibom 6 – 0 in the opening match of the regional sports fiesta holding in Benin City.
The Host began the game seeking early goals and were rewarded after a defensive blunder by Akwa Ibom.
The goal set the tone for what was in store for the hapless Akwa Ibom, as the host opened the flood gates scoring three goals in succession with one of the goals chalked off for off side.
The Edo team continued their dominance in the second half as they sustained the pressure on Akwa Ibom, which resulted in another flurry of goals to bring their tally to 6- 0 sending a strong signal to other participating teams in the football event.
In the male football category, Team Bayelsa came from a goal down to force Team Imo to a 2-2 draw despite playing the game without a reserve bench.
Team Delta also came from a goal down to force defending champions, Team Bayelsa, to a 1-1 draw in a keenly contested encounter played at the Crescent Sports Club, Iyekogba, Benin City.
