Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s latest intervention in the Rivers State political crisis will finally resolve the prolonged standoff between the executive arm and the state legislature.

The intervention follows renewed efforts by the Presidency to broker peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly after months of escalating political tension, impeachment threats, and deepening factional divisions within the legislature.

Speaking on Tuesday, Wike likened President Tinubu’s role to that of a father intervening to restore harmony in a troubled household.

“He is very kind to the people of the state. When there is a problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he must step in to intervene,” Wike said.

The former Rivers governor noted that this marks the second personal intervention by President Tinubu in the crisis, expressing optimism that it would bring lasting peace.
“This is the second time Mr President is intervening, and I believe, by the grace of God, that this will be the last time,” he said.

Wike disclosed that he had directed all parties involved in the dispute to fully comply with the president’s directives, adding that he was confident they would do so.
“I have told them to obey Mr President, and I am certain they will not hesitate,” he stated.
He also expressed confidence that Governor Fubara would honour the commitments reached during the presidential mediation.

“I know that the governor will carry out his own part to ensure that this is the final time the people of Rivers State will hear of such discord,” Wike added.
