The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended its membership e-registration exercise by one week.

The exercise with an initial deadline of January 31st, 2026, will now be concluded on February 8th, 2026.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, announced the extension at a media briefing on Friday, January 30.

He also disclosed that state congresses will not hold in Osun, Ekiti, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Flanked by his Deputy, Honourable Duro Meseko, and the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the APC National Publicity Secretary said the extension was necessary to allow those who are anxious to be registered to be given the opportunity to partake in the exercise.

The party’s national secretary also revealed that the shift in the deadline was informed by the demand of the governors.

Recall that the APC National Working Committee had a meeting on Wednesday with the Progressive Governors Forum.

Basiru said, “We just want more members to register. We’re responding to the clamour by enthusiastic members who are hoping to register, to afford them more time to register. That’s the explanation for that.

“And based on that request, particularly by the body of the Governor’s Forum at the meeting we held with them the day before yesterday, that was why the National Working Committee decided to extend.”

Giving reason for putting on hold conduct of congresses in three states and the FCT, Morka explained that the forthcoming off-season governorship elections in Osun, Ekiti and the Area Council elections in the FCT informed the action of the party national leadership.

He said, “Well, with respect to the exemptions for those states, Osun, Ekiti, FCT, and Rivers, now there are two explanations.

“One, Ekiti, Osun, and FCT have upcoming elections. So we are exempting them in order for the elections to hold, and then congresses will be scheduled in those states, subsequent to the elections.

“With respect to Rivers, you will recall that we had congresses, off-season, off-cycle congresses in River state last year. The tenure of that executive that was elected at that congress is still subsisting, and, therefore, we must wait for that tenure to conclude before we then schedule fresh congresses in River state.”

The National Publicity Secretary, however, clarified that despite the adjustment in the timetable, the National Convention will still take place on March 27th to 28th, 2026.

He said, “The National Working Committee also approved the composition of the coordinating committee for our National Convention. We believe it will be published on Monday, so we can have the full list of membership and chairmanship of that committee.

“All of the changes and adjustments that we’ve made to the Congress schedule will also be published on Monday.”
