Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as the most Christian-friendly government since Nigeria’s creation.

Akpabio spoke on Tuesday in Jos during a reception rally to formally receive Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau state, into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued by Jackson Udom, his special assistant on media, Akpabio said Tinubu has demonstrated fairness to Nigerians of all faiths through his actions.

“Let me place on record that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is the most Christian-friendly administration since the creation of Nigeria,” the statement reads.

“He has shown this through his actions and deeds; he treats both Christians and Muslims equally.”

Akpabio congratulated Mutfwang for what he described as repositioning Plateau state within Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Mr Governor, I congratulate you on this action of taking the people of Plateau to the centre of national politics,” the senate president said.

Akpabio assured residents of Plateau that insecurity in the state would soon be addressed.

“We will support your government in all sectors in order to better the lives of your people, and we will not leave you alone,” he added.

He said Mutfwang’s defection had brought all north-central states into the APC.

“Today’s action has finally brought all the states in the north-central geo-political zone into the party, and this is significant,” Akpabio said.

The senate president said the federal government would continue to protect Nigerians regardless of religious belief.

“Government will do everything within its powers to protect Nigerians no matter their religious inclination and belief,” he said.

“We will support President Tinubu through approval of funds in order to shut down all IDP camps in the country.”

Mutfwang thanked Akpabio and others who facilitated the rally.

“Today’s movement is a landmark; it is a statement that the people on the Plateau have made,” he said.

“They are here in their thousands to publicly declare their support for the APC and to return President Tinubu back to office in 2027.”

The governor said the defection marked the beginning of a new phase for the state.

“We are beginning a journey that our forefathers had long expected, that we be united for peace and development,” he said.

On January 2, Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC, announced Mutfwang’s entry into the party.

Hours later, Simon Lalong, senator representing Plateau south and former governor, informed party members that his APC leadership in the state had ended with the defection of Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
