In an effort geared at enhancing Safety for Road Users as well as boosting internally generated revenue, the Akwa Ibom State Government has flagged off the construction of a 500-capacity Central Tipper/Truck Park in Uyo, the State capital.
The Park when completed will curb road obstruction and incessant road accidents caused by indiscriminate parking of Tippers/Trucks along major roads in the State especially near production factories and construction companies.
To prevent this malady, the Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Transport flagged-off the Construction of a Central Tipper/Truck Park behind Champion Breweries along Aka-Nung Udoe Industrial layout.
Speaking at the Flag-off ceremony in Uyo on Tuesday 20th January, the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke said, as a proactive Governor, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, is committed to the safety of lives particularly the Road users and therefore was moved to undertake the project.
The State Transport Boss disclosed that, apart from the Central Tipper/Truck Park, Government is planning on constructing another Park at Ntak Inyang Itam in Itu LGA and also in each of the Senatorial districts of the State.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, the Commissioner emphasized that, in addition to enhancing safety of lives of commuters and road users, the Tipper/Truck Park will create employment opportunities to the teeming youths of the state and also boost internally generated revenue, IGR.
He commended the Union of Tippers, Suppliers and Quarry Employers of Nigeria, UTSQEN, for partnering government towards the successful flag-off of the construction of the Central Tipper/Truck Park and pledged government’s readiness to partner meaningful initiatives by Transport Unions towards the development of the sector as envisioned in the ARISE Agenda.
Earlier, the State Chairman of UTSQEN, Comrade Edikan Iweh had expressed deep appreciation to the AKwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno PhD for his lofty strides in the Transport sector adding that, the 500-capacity Tipper/Truck Park will enhance the transport of Solid Mineral in the state thus boosting the economic sector.
Comrade Iweh commended the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke for his sterling leadership qualities as portrayed in his commitment to the flag-off of the Tipper/Truck Park project which had been abandoned for more than two decades.
In recognition of his commitment and contributions to the development of the Park project, UTSQEN presented Dr. Anthony Luke with the *Best Transport Commissioner Ever* Award.
The event which featured the hoisting of Nigeria, State and UTSQEN Flags at the project site as a mark of authority and claim of the land was attended by Directors of the Ministry of Transport as well as Critical Stakeholders of the Transport sector.
