The Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Anthony Luke, has been honoured with the prestigious “Best Transport Commissioner Ever” Award by the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTSQEN).
The award was presented to the Commissioner during the official flag-off ceremony of the construction of the Central Tipper/Truck Park by UTSQEN, held on Tuesday, 20th January 2026. The honour recognizes Dr. Luke’s exceptional commitment to the realization of a long-abandoned project that had stalled for over two decades, as well as his transformative initiatives in repositioning the transport sector in the state.
The union further commended the Commissioner for his leadership in fostering cooperation, improving efficiency and strengthening stakeholder engagement within the transport industry.
UTSQEN also pledged its continued support to the Ministry of Transport and to Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, reaffirming its commitment to collaborative progress and sustainable development.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Grace Akpan, expressed deep appreciation to the union for the recognition and acknowledged their consistent support and cooperation with the ministry.
She reiterated the Commissioner’s unwavering dedication to the realization of Governor Umo Eno’s vision of an efficient, modern and effective transport system in Akwa Ibom State.
She further called on all stakeholders to put “every hand on deck” in repositioning the sector in line with the ARISE Agenda of the present administration.
The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by directors and other senior officers of the ministry at the event.
