In a statement issued on Monday, January 12, 2026, by her Press Secretary, Omen Bassey, the Deputy Governor described the claim as entirely fabricated, stressing that no such bill exists before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The statement noted that the Office of the Deputy Governor had been inundated with inquiries from concerned members of the public following the rapid circulation of the report on social media, prompting the need for an official clarification.

“Her Excellency, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, has not sponsored any bill in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly or anywhere else and is not even aware of the existence of the said bill, which is the subject of the fake news currently trending,” the statement read.

The statement further clarified that, constitutionally, a Deputy Governor is a member of the State Executive Council and does not have the authority to personally sponsor bills in the legislature.

It explained that all executive bills must first be considered by the Council and then transmitted to the House of Assembly by the Governor or an officially designated agent.

It was also emphasized that the alleged bill did not originate from any official communication channel of the state government or the legislature, further underscoring its fictitious nature.

Senator Eyakenyi urged residents to disregard the viral report in its entirety and advised the public to rely on verified government platforms for accurate information.

The Deputy Governor enjoined the public to cultivate the habit of verifying reports through official channels before sharing them, noting that the clarification is part of a broader effort to curb misinformation and promote responsible information sharing in the state.
