Cameroon sent South Africa crashing out of the Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 win over the Bafana Bafana in their round of 16 encounter on Sunday, January 4.

The high-tempo, entertaining match at the Agdal Medina Stadium, Rabat, was replete with chances, and it was the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon that proved more clinical than the Bafana Bafana who wasted several first half chances before Cameroon struck.

Defender Junior Tchamadeu handed the 2021 champions the lead on 34 minutes with a low shot from a deflected cross, scoring his first international goal.
Cameroon made it two-nil through youngster Christian Kofane’s header from Mahamadou Nagida’s cross.

South Africa were not short of chances, and ensured there was a nail-biting finale when Evidence Makgopa converted from a low cross two minutes from time, but Cameroon held on to claim the win.

Five-time AFCON champions Cameroon will face hosts Morocco in the quarter final after the hosts defeated Tanzania 1-0 earlier in the day to confirm their final-eight slot.
