The Akwa Ibom State Pensioners have decrided the neglect metted on them by the Akwa Ibom Government during this Christmas Season.

“Is retirement a dead sentence? Are we not still civil servant after retirement?”, Elder Akpan said.
Another government retiree from Ikono local government area, Stanley Udo, 65, said that the state officers of the pensioners union are not doing enough to enable retirees get Christmas Package from the government.
“It would have been better even if each government retirees were given N50,000.00 across board but we were used and dumped.”
Retiree Okon Edu, 68, from Mbo local government area said that Governor Umo Eno has good intentions for Akwa Ibom but people surrounding him are the problem.
“As a thoroughbred business man, our governor should have known that ‘what is good for the goose is also good for the gander’.
“We are retired civil servants, so part from Christmas Package, we should be well catered for. Where are the rice, etc? It rather very sad that we are being treated this way but let it be on record that we weren’t given anything for Christmas despite serving the government.”
TheNewsDESK efforts to reach the State Chairmen of Nigerian Pension Union, NPU, didn’t yell any result.
But the pensioners spoken with expressed optimism that Governor Eno might be working on a package for them and that it might materialize early January 2026
