With the heightened vigour in boosting transport infrastructure, the Akwa Ibom State Government is soon to roll out a new Jetty in Nwaniba.
The new Jetty will bring to three the number of jetties under construction by the Governor Umo Eno-led administration to enhance Water transportation by residents, tourists and visitors alike.
Dr. Anthony Luke, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Transport, made this known Tuesday in Uyo, while appearing as Guest on a Radio Interview program *ARISE Update*, on Memories 96.5FM.
The Transport Commissioner disclosed that, already the State Government is constructing World Class jetties with state-of-the-arts facilities in Oron and Calabar to boost maritime transportation and is now looking at another jetty at Nwaniba Waterfront as the sector continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
Dr Luke commended Governor Umo Eno for keeping the waterways safe and secured for travelers by providing Gun-boats for surveillance by security operatives adding that, both the Water and Land Transportation sub-sectors have been sanitized by government for the benefit of the people especially during this festive period.
He emphasized that, the Ministry of Transport has introduced innovative ways and technologies to ward-off criminality in the Transport sector and enlisted them to include: Biometric capturing of Tricycles, Profiling of Delivery Dispatch Riders and branding of dispatch box, helmet and reflective jackets with Akwa Ibom State colours for easy identification.
Additionally, all Delivery Dispatch Riders are to be given identity cards after profiling along with a guarantee letter from a guarantor who must be a Village head or a Senior Government official.
The State Transport Boss who emphasized that there will be Transport renaissance in the first quarter of 2026, hinted that commuters will experience leisure and affordable transportation cost with the 50 (fifty)CNG Buses that will arrive the State while maritime transport will also boom with the two (2) Passenger ferry boats being awaited.
He urged all residents to assist the State government in sanitizing the transport sector by reporting suspicious activities along our roads to security operatives, advising that one-way driving should be discouraged to enable them stay safe during the Yuletide.
