Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has expressed deep disillusionment with the ongoing internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that he may leave the party if a resolution is not found. In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored on Tuesday, 23rd December 2025, Lamido stated that he would consider aligning with another political platform if the leadership fails to address the deep-seated divisions currently plaguing the party. He described the situation as a calculated effort by certain elements within the party to weaken and eventually destroy its foundations.

The elder statesman noted that the PDP, which historically served as a unifying national platform, is now paralyzed by internal wrangling and a lack of discipline. Lamido’s frustrations echo similar sentiments from other party stalwarts who have called for a major overhaul of the party’s National Working Committee. He warned that continued infighting would erode the party’s competitive strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that he would ultimately take a decision based on his political principles and personal convictions if the “deliberate destruction” of the party continues.
