The Akwa Ibom Governor , Pastor Umo Eno, has launched a specialised Capacity Building Programme for 20 Akwa Ibom youths in Ferry Boats Operation and Maintenance, reinforcing his commitment to modernizing water transportation in the State.
The trainees, drawn from Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transport and Quartermaster fields, are undergoing hands-on training on the two State-owned ferry boats currently under construction — a 24-metre passenger/cruise ferry at the Naval Shipyard, Port Harcourt, and a 73-seater passenger ferry at Hydro Marine & Boat Service, Apapa, Lagos.
Upon completion, they will earn Marine Engineering/Officers Certificates of Competency and be employed by the State Government to manage and maintain the vessels.
