The Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Tuesday, December 2, gave a directive for the immediate upgrade of Ibom Plaza, Uyo, during an unscheduled inspection visit to the landmark. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring the plaza as a premier city center and a symbol of pride for the people of Akwa Ibom.
The Governor described Ibom Plaza as a vital metropolitan hub that must reflect the ambience and functionality of a modern city center. He noted that, for the first time in many years, the government has successfully cleared miscreants and criminal elements from the area, reclaiming a space that had long been considered unsafe.
“This place used to be a den of armed robbers and area boys, but we have taken it back. We are redesigning it into a proper park. By December 24 and 25, this place will become a full recreation park for everyone to enjoy,” the Governor said.
To strengthen security, Governor Eno directed that new security patrol vehicles be permanently stationed at the plaza, ensuring safety and enabling free movement and leisure, especially during the festive season.
Describing the plaza as “the pride of Uyo,” the Governor called on residents to support ongoing rehabilitation efforts to ensure the space is completed on schedule and fully restored ahead of December 24. “With your cooperation, we will bring Ibom Plaza back to life,” he assured.
