The Nigerian Army has announced a fresh round of promotions, with 105 senior officers advancing to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General, according to the Army Public Relations Directorate.
In a statement issued Friday by Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the service confirmed that the Army Council approved the promotions on Thursday, November 27.
The breakdown shows that 28 Brigadier Generals have now moved up to Major General, while 77 Colonels were elevated to Brigadier General.
Among those promoted to Major General are Brig.-Gen. O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; Brig.-Gen. S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information; Brig.-Gen. R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army); and Brig.-Gen. R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations.
Others who made the list include Brig.-Gen. A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brig.-Gen. S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brig.-Gen. I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brig.-Gen. C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Additional promotions to Major General were awarded to Brig.-Gen. S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brig.-Gen. W.L. Nzidee of the Army Logistics Department; Brig.-Gen. S.A. Emmanuel of Nigerian Army Signals; Brig.-Gen. S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI; Brig.-Gen. M.O. Agi of the NDA TETFund Desk; Brig.-Gen. I.M. Abbas, Commander 34 Brigade; along with Brig.-Gen. Z.A. Saidu, who received a posthumous promotion.
The Army also released the names of newly promoted Brigadier Generals from formations and units including the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Army Headquarters Garrison, Defence Headquarters, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Nigerian Army Dog Centre, 9 Brigade, 401 Special Forces Brigade, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, and multiple Nigerian Army Reference Hospitals.
Congratulating the officers and their families, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu urged the newly promoted personnel to rise to their expanded responsibilities.
He called on them to “cultivate bold, innovative and unconventional solutions” in tackling the country’s evolving security threats.
Shaibu also emphasized their duty to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, insisting their loyalty to the Constitution must remain “absolute, unwavering and beyond reproach.”
