Gov Eno Commends AKSU Acting VC For Advancing Institution’s Status

The Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has applauded the Acting Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU, Prof. Otoabasi Akpan, for his dedicated efforts toward elevating the institution—efforts that recently culminated in the accreditation of the university’s Law Faculty by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

Governor Eno gave the commendation while speaking as Special Guest at the 12th Valedictory/Award Service of the university’s Chapel of Praise, held for the 2024/2025 graduands at the main campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

The governor emphasized the importance of strong moral grounding, discipline and a clear sense of purpose, noting that these values are essential for graduates to overcome future life challenges and make meaningful impact in their chosen careers—alongside academic excellence.

Addressing the graduands, he urged them to prioritize character, describing it as the foundation for unlocking their potential and achieving lasting success.

He encouraged the students to maintain an aspirational mindset and continuously seek innovative ways to apply their knowledge for greater societal value, noting that many success stories are rooted in individuals’ ability to creatively leverage their education.

Expressing appreciation on behalf of the university, Prof. Akpan described the governor’s presence at the event as a moment of great pride for the institution. He said the visit underscored Governor Eno’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting AKSU’s growth.

He urged the graduands to uphold the values and moral discipline imparted to them throughout their academic journey and to represent the university honourably in their future endeavours.

Delivering the valedictory speech, Emmanuel Justin Jimmy thanked Governor Eno for honouring the graduating class with his presence, describing it as a rare privilege.

The Chaplain of the Chapel of Praise, Rev. Otobong Umoren, noted that the annual service is a long-standing tradition of giving thanks for the accomplishments of the university’s graduands. She expressed gratitude to the governor for making the 2025 edition particularly special and memorable.
