According to a report by Vanguard, the officer was shadowed by unidentified men clad in black and travelling in two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates. The vehicles were said to have pursued him from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.

The source said Yarima became aware of the surveillance and carried out a “strategic maneuver,” enabling him to escape the suspected attackers. The incident was reported to have taken place at about 6:30 p.m.
