Declaring the session open, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob—represented by the Executive Director, Agricultural Investment, Pastor Godwin Ukwat—said the training was designed to equip workers with skills needed to support the economic growth and plans of the State government. He commended the Planning, Research and Statistics Directorate, led by Mr. Nnamkere Akpan and other contributors that ensure the training session successful.

Pastor Ukwat urged staff to take advantage of the knowledge being shared, stressing that effective public service delivery requires continuous learning and improved work ethics.

Chairman of the training and Director of Agricultural Investment, Mr. Ofonmbuk Nelson, noted that modern work environments demand intellectual growth beyond formal certificates. He said AKICORP has provided free internet access within the office to support staff who are interested in further academic or professional development. He encouraged workers to maximize this opportunity and remain open to learning.

One of the highlights of the event was a presentation by Pastor Ukwat on “Development of AKICORP Work Plan for 2026.” He explained that the Corporation’s work plan must align with the political and economic realities of the coming year. According to him, continuity in governance is essential for the completion of ongoing investment initiatives, and the success of the 2026 plan depends on coherence, measurable indicators, timelines, clear mandates and strategic intent.

The Executive Director, Other Investments, Mr. Effiong, spoke on Interpersonal Relations in the Workplace, where he emphasized communication, empathy and teamwork as major drivers of institutional growth. He said the Corporation has adopted a new working mantra: “Results: No Excuses, No Stories,” which places premium on accountability, innovation and open communication.

Also speaking, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Nnamkere Akpan, gave an overview of the Akwa Ibom State Budget Preparation Process. He outlined the roles of major actors including the Ministry of Economic and Budget Planning, Ministries Departments Agencies, the State Executive Council, the Legislature and the Governor. He further highlighted challenges such as inadequate funding and poor planning, and recommended stronger transparency and data-driven projections to improve budget outcomes.
