The police in Akwa Ibom State have withdrawn their operatives from the residences of the former governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel, as the rift between him and his successor, Umo Eno, has continued to widen since the latter defected from the PDP to the APC in June, PREMIUM TIMES reported.

According to reports, PREMIUM TIMES has seen a copy of the order marked as Order 472.

It was learnt that the withdrawn operatives were also attached to former state officials who refused to defect to the APC.

When visited on Thursday and Friday, no police operatives were found around Mr Emmanuel’s residences at his country home, Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, and at Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, it was reported.

When contacted on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Baba Azare, denied that operatives had been withdrawn from the former governor’s residences.

An order dated 30 September, signed by Ekwo Godwin, an assistant superintendent of police, on behalf of the chief security officer at the Government House, Uyo, directed the operatives attached to Mr Emmanuel’s residences in the state to withdraw from their locations on 1 October and report at the police headquarters, Uyo, for debriefing.

The Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom, Aniekan Umanah, told our reporter on Thursday that he was unaware of the development.

“I am not aware of that. You can ask the security people. I am not aware,” he said, adding that the order “can’t be from the state government.”
