The Akwa Ibom State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has issued a stern warning to all motorists and road users against the flagrant violation of traffic laws, particularly the dangerous act of driving against traffic (one-way).

CP Azare expressed grave concern over the increasing number of accidents and traffic gridlock caused by motorists who disregard traffic rules and regulations. The Commissioner emphasized that such reckless behavior not only endangers the lives of the drivers themselves but also poses a serious threat to the safety of other road users, including pedestrians.

“We have observed with dismay the high rate of traffic indiscipline within the state, especially the persistent habit of driving against the flow of traffic.

“This act is not only a violation of the law but a complete disregard for human life. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command will no longer tolerate this level of recklessness”, CP Azare said.

To address this menace and ensure public safety on the roads, the Commissioner of Police has announced the immediate deployment of a Special Surveillance Squad. This team has been mandated to patrol major roads and strategic points within the state to identify and apprehend all traffic offenders.

The Command wishes to state unequivocally that all erring parties caught violating traffic rules shall be apprehended and expressly prosecuted in accordance with the law. Vehicles impounded during this operation will not be released until the full legal process has been completed.

CP Azare urged all citizens to be law-abiding and to cooperate with the police and other traffic management agencies. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to creating a safer environment for everyone and called on members of the public to report any observed traffic violations to the nearest police station.

This was contained in a Press Release by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Timfon John dated September 19, 2025 in Uyo.
