The Israeli Defense Forces, IDF, says it targeted senior leadership of Hamas with “precise strike” in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, CNN reported.
Shortly after the explosion in Doha, the IDF issued a statement that it had targeted “senior leadership” of Hamas with “a precise strike” in a joint operation with the Shin Bet security agency.
The statement didn’t specify where the operation was carried out, but suggested that it was outside Gaza.
“For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization’s operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7th massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel.”
Explosions were heard in Doha after Israel carried out an attack against the Hamas leadership there, an Israeli source told CNN.
A senior Hamas official confirmed to CNN that the group’s negotiators were targeted in Doha. The attack appears to be the first time Israel has launched an operation in Qatar.
An Israeli official said the United States, US, was told ahead of the attack.
Smoke was seen rising in Doha, Qatar, just after an Israel said the country had carried out an attack against the Hamas leadership.
Grey smoke covered the pale blue sky in areas near Al Wahda Arches and Pearl Gateway Towers.
Turkey has issued a statement condemning Israeli attack in Doha. According to Turkish Foreign Ministry:
“We condemn the Israeli attack on the Hamas negotiating team in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
“Targeting the Hamas negotiating team during ceasefire negotiations shows that Israel does not aim to achieve peace, but rather to perpetuate war.
“With this attack, Qatar, which mediated the ceasefire negotiations, has been added to the list of countries targeted by Israel in the region. This is clear evidence of Israel’s expansionist policies in the region and its adoption of terrorism as an official policy.
We stand with Qatar against this heinous attack that targets its sovereignty and security.
“We renew our call to the international community to pressure Israel to stop its ongoing aggression against Palestine and the region.”
