Police Condemn Assault on Motorist in Viral Video, Order Disciplinary Action Against Officers

The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of some of its personnel caught on video harassing a motorist during a stop-and-search operation in Lagos.

The clip which began trending on Friday night was seen by First Daily correspondent on Saturday, showed the officers attempting to forcibly remove a pair of glasses from the driver before physically assaulting him.

According to a statement from the Force Headquarters on Saturday, the officers involved have been identified as operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command.

The force disclosed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has since taken swift action, directing disciplinary measures against the erring officers and ordering a restructuring of the squad involved.

The Force emphasised that the misconduct was an isolated case and does not reflect the standards of professionalism expected of police personnel.

It further assured Nigerians that it remains committed to weeding out errant officers whose actions tarnish the image of the NPF and embarrass the thousands of diligent and responsible men and women of the police service.
