The Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has dismissed claims of low remuneration among his political aides, declaring that none of his Personal Assistants (PAs) earn less than N1 million monthly.

The governor made the clarification during a Town Square Meeting with residents of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, where he expressed displeasure over comments by some aides portraying their earnings as insignificant.

Governor Eno stressed that the remuneration for aides is substantial and urged them to demonstrate accountability and visible impact in their communities.

“Let it be clear: no Personal Assistant to the Governor earns less than N1million monthly,” he said. “It’s misleading to call that a ‘stipend.’ That’s substantial income, and I expect every appointee to use their position to make a difference.”

The governor cited the example of Blessed Essien, his Personal Assistant on Protocol, who funded a water borehole project for his community from his earnings. In recognition of Essien’s gesture, Eno announced his promotion to the position of Special Assistant (SA) on Public Works.

“I received a brochure about a PA who used part of his earnings to construct and reticulate a borehole in his village. That’s commendable,” the governor said. “But others with similar opportunities are not engaging their communities meaningfully.”

Governor Eno directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile and publish a list of all political appointees, including their designations and local government areas, in a national newspaper for public scrutiny.

He urged constituents to demand accountability from political office holders, stating: “Ask your PAs, your SAs, SSAs, and Commissioners what they have done for your communities.”

The governor reaffirmed that performance and responsibility would remain the basis for recognition and elevation in his administration, noting that Essien’s promotion was tied to his demonstrable service to his people.
