Former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election may shape up to be a contest between two prominent southern politicians — incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Garba, who made the projection in a post on his social media handle, suggested that the North may have limited influence in the next presidential race, as both likely frontrunners would come from the South.

“The North is most likely going to be faced with two southern candidates with only four-year terms remaining: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,” Garba wrote.

He, however, added that this scenario might only materialize if there is no political alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, both of whom still command strong followership in the North and South respectively.

Garba’s remarks have sparked fresh conversations in political circles as the country gradually inches towards the 2027 general elections.
