To enhance maternal and child healthcare in Akwa Ibom State, the Golden Initiative for All, GIFA, has provided essential medical kits to pregnant women in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

The Chairperson, Board of Trustees of GIFA and Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, today distributed PatCare kits during the Medical Missions of the Ibom Open Maternity Project, organised by Carelife Character Foundation and other partners, at Primary Health Centre, Nung Udoe Ibesikpo.

Represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Pastor Anne Abraham, Lady Obareki emphasised that GIFA is dedicated to impacting families and communities, with maternal and child healthcare.



She said as one of its key focus areas, GIFA is poised to address the rising rates of maternal mortality and morbidity, noting that the maternity kits provided, will equip pregnant women in rural areas with essential items for delivery.

While she praised Governor Umo Eno for his efforts in tackling public health concerns and improving access to affordable healthcare in the state, Lady Obareki commended the enhanced quality of primary healthcare services, health insurance schemes and prompt emergency and ambulance services, provided throughout the state.

In her welcome address, the Primary Health Care (PHC) Director of Health in Ibesikpo Local Government Area, Mrs. Ekemini Udofia expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State government, GIFA, the Carelife Character Foundation and all implementing partners for their dedication to promoting a healthy populace.

The Ibom Open Maternity Project in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area recorded over one thousand pregnant women registered for free access to the Akwa Ibom State Insurance Scheme, as well as free birth registration for children from zero to five years old.

The event was attended by representatives of Implementing Partners including the World Health Organisation (WHO), National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA), Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (AKSPHCDA), Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), Centre for Clinical Care and Clinical Research (CCCRN), KNCV, MSI Reproductive Choices, among others.

The Medical team provided maternity literacy as well as Health and Nutritional talks to educate the pregnant women and nursing mothers on how to nurture their babies into healthy adults.
