The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMET, has issued a new nationwide weather alert, effective from Wednesday, August 6 to Friday, August 8.

According to NAN, NiMet’s weather outlook, released in Abuja on Tuesday, predicted thunderstorms for Wednesday over the northern region, with moderate rainfall expected in parts of Kaduna.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, and Borno later in the day.

For the central region, there are prospects of light rains over parts of Abuja, southern Niger, and Kwara during the morning hours. In the afternoon or evening hours, light rains are anticipated over parts of Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, Niger, and Abuja.

For the southern region, light rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Anambra, Imo, and Akwa Ibom during the morning hours. The agency predicted continuous rain over the entire region during the afternoon or evening hours.

According to NiMet, there are prospects of morning thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Gombe on Thursday in the northern region.

The agency anticipated thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Kaduna, Borno, Yobe, Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi later in the day. It envisaged prospects of light rains over parts of Benue in the central region during the morning period.

In the afternoon or evening hours, intermittent light rains are anticipated over parts of Abuja, Niger, Benue, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Plateau.

For the southern region, there are prospects of intermittent light rains affecting parts of Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Ondo, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom during the morning hours. In the afternoon and evening hours, intermittent light rain is expected over the entire region.

NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms in the northern region, accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Adamawa, Borno, and Kaduna. According to the agency, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and the entire northwestern part of the country later in the day.

It forecasts a high possibility of floods occurring over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Taraba, Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, and Kaduna during the forecast period. For the central region, there are prospects of thunderstorms with intermittent rainfall over the region, both in the morning and afternoon/evening hours. There is a high possibility of flooding occurring in parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, and Plateau.

For the southern region, there are prospects of thunderstorms with intermittent rainfall over the region, both in the morning and afternoon or evening hours. There is a high possibility of flooding occurring in parts of Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, and Cross River.
