Following the expiration of the two-term Comrade Amos Etuk’s administration on August 2, new leaders have emerged to run Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council for the next three years.
At the breath-taking election held at NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, Comrade Nsibiet John, publisher of The Ink Newspaper, was elected State Chairman of the union.

Comrade John, a member of the Federated Chapel of the union, emerged victorious after polling 555 votes to defeat Comrade Nene Afia of the State Ministry of Information Chapel, 92 votes, Effiong Edet, 21 votes and Esther Effiong, who got four votes.
In the other positions, Margaret Moore emerged as Vice Chairman with 393 votes, defeating Mkpoikana (246 votes) and Ernest Robert (34 votes). For the post of Secretary, Nsikak Esenowo won with 419 votes against Michael Ufot, who had 253 votes.
Uduak Akai was returned unopposed as Assistant Secretary.
With the overwhelming mandate, Comrade Nsibiet John now officially takes over leadership of the Akwa Ibom NUJ Council.
