Police In Akwa Ibom Arrest Suspected Car Thief, Recover Stolen Vehicle

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a suspect in connection with the theft.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the incident occurred on July 18, 2025, when the owner of a Toyota Camry (name withheld), parked the car at a hospital in Abak Local Government Area for a medical appointment.

The owner reported that he had received a tally card at the gate around 1:45 p.m., but returned to find the vehicle missing before his appointment concluded.

Following an intelligence-driven stop-and-search operation on July 26, 2025, operatives sighted the stolen vehicle at about 9:30 p.m. along Ikot Ekpene Road, Main Park. One Otoabasi George Ime was found in possession of the vehicle and claimed he had purchased it from a car stand located along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo.

The suspect and the stolen vehicle in Akwa Ibom are currently in police custody as discreet investigations continue.

The Command assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted and the outcome made known in due course.
