The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested 5,488 criminal suspects and rescued 170 kidnap victims in the last two months.
The suspects were arrested for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, homicide, and murder. The force also recovered 316 assorted firearms, 2,884 rounds of ammunition, and 216 stolen or unregistered vehicles.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, provided these statistics on Monday, July 28, during a strategic conference with senior police officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Building, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The conference focused on addressing changes in the security landscape, the complexity of threats, and reinforcing the Force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP commended senior officers for their dedication and operational efficiency, noting the sacrifices made for public safety, which led to significant achievements for the force in the last two months.
“From June to July 2025, the NPF recorded the arrest of 5,488 criminal suspects for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, homicide, and murder; the recovery of 316 assorted firearms and 2,884 rounds of ammunition; the recovery of 216 stolen/unregistered vehicles, and the rescue of 170 kidnapped victims, some from extremely difficult terrains,” the statement read.
The IGP charged the senior officers to renew their commitment to crime fighting, emphasising that leadership roles are not ceremonial but earned through lifesaving decisions that keep the country safe. He further stressed the need for Commands and Formations to showcase operational results at their various levels to inform Nigerians of the police’s unrelenting efforts to ensure public safety.
He urged officers to be proactive in responding to potential threats, highlighting the need for the Force to stay abreast of changes in crime dynamics by implementing intelligence-led strategies and leveraging technology to enhance crime-fighting capabilities.
The IGP reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to improving welfare packages for both serving and retired police officers, which remains a cornerstone of his administration’s institutional reform agenda.
The conference concluded with renewed vigour from all senior officers to implement the IGP’s policies towards crime prevention, while reassuring Nigerians of continual engagement at the grassroots level to ensure a safe and secure Nigeria.
