The victims were returning to Chirang and Mile Bakwai villages after the day’s market activities when the assailants ambushed them and opened fire on the vehicle.

As a result, eight persons died on the spot, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were evacuated to a nearby health facility.

A combined team of troops of the Special Task Force (STF) were swiftly mobilised to the scene.

The Security forces engaged the attackers in a gun duel and pursued them into the forest. During the clearance operations, one officer from the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) sustained a gunshot wound and was initially treated at a local clinic before being transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for further medical attention.

Security forces said clearance operations are still ongoing in the area, with additional reinforcements deployed to restore calm and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
