The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have been laid to rest at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.
Late Buhari’s remains was lowered into the grave by Vice President Kashim Shettima alongside others at 5:50 p.m.
Large crowds lined the streets of Daura and gathered at the former President’s residence to pay their last respects.

President Tinubu and other dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Umaru Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau, Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Ali Lamine Zeine, former President of Niger Republic, Issoufou Mahamadou, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, governors and business leaders, escorted the late President’s remains on the hour-long drive to Daura, arrived his residence at 4.33pm.
Upon arrival, a brief lying-in-state ceremony was held at President Buhari’s residence, followed by the funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) led by Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, the Imam of the Central Mosque in Daura.
The former president’s remains, wrapped in Nigeria’s flag, were carried into the vicinity by top military officers.
Buhari died Sunday, July 13, evening after a prolonged illness. He died at 82 at the famous The London Clinic.
His body was accompanied back home by family members and other dignitaries including VP Shettima.
General Buhari’s remains arrived Katsina airport from London around 2:00 p.m. From there, his remains were taken to Daura, his hometown.
Before he was buried, the former president was honoured with gun salutes.
Subsequently, his citation was read by the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa.
