Linda Yaccarino, the chief executive officer of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has officially announced her resignation after nearly two years at the helm.

Yaccarino, who joined the company in June 2023 following a high-profile career as head of advertising at NBCUniversal, revealed her departure in a post on X, expressing gratitude to Elon Musk for what she described as an “extraordinary mission.”

“I am immensely grateful to Elon Musk for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App,” she wrote.

Her exit marks the end of a tumultuous chapter for X, which has undergone dramatic transformations under Musk’s ownership—including mass layoffs, an overhaul of platform features, and a turbulent relationship with advertisers.

While Musk has yet to comment on Yaccarino’s departure, her resignation comes amid ongoing uncertainty about the company’s strategic direction, financial health, and user base engagement.

Yaccarino’s tenure began at a critical time when major brands were pulling back from advertising on the platform following Musk’s acquisition and sweeping changes. She was widely seen as a stabilizing force meant to restore advertiser confidence while aligning with Musk’s broader vision of an all-in-one “everything app.”

“When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime,” she wrote in her farewell note. “After two incredible years, I’ve made the decision to step down.”
