The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has issued a strong warning to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging it to stop actions perceived as attempts to suppress Nigeria’s opposition parties.

The party expressed concern over what it described as deliberate moves by some government officials to weaken the rising opposition coalition. The ADC argued that such actions pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s multiparty democracy and risk reversing the democratic gains achieved over the years.

The party reminded President Tinubu that he is a beneficiary of a democratic system that thrived under the leadership of former President Goodluck Jonathan. It urged the president to rise above partisan interests and uphold democratic values by reigning in overzealous appointees whose actions may stifle political dissent.

“The president needs to prove that he is truly a democrat. He must remind his men that if the Goodluck Jonathan administration had behaved this way, the APC would never have come to power in 2015, and he would not be president today”, it noted.

The ADC Interim National Publicity Secretary and National Coalition Spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement, alleged that former state chairmen and key executive members of the party from the North East and North West zones were invited to a secret meeting with top federal officials.
