In a bid to stem insecurity and restore the aesthetics of the prime Ewet Housing in Uyo, owners of undeveloped plots and abandoned housing units risk having their allotments revoked if they do not develop and put them to use within 90 days.

The ultimatum was issued by the Executive Council during its meeting held on Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.
Briefing Government House correspondents after the Executive Council session, the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, clarified that the move has become necessary, considering the need to improve security and preserve the aesthetic value of the Government-owned housing estate, stressing that such abandoned plots and housing units have become convergence points for criminal elements.

According to the State Information helmsman, the Executive Council has, in furtherance of the directive, mandated the Ministry of Housing and the Akwa Ibom State Property and Investment Company, APICO, to ensure compliance with the directive.
“To improve security and preserve the aesthetic value of the Ewet Housing Estate, Council directed all legitimate allottees of undeveloped plots and abandoned units to commence development within 90 days or risk revocation. The Ministry of Housing and the Akwa Ibom State Property and Investment Company, APICO, were mandated to ensure compliance”, he said.
