Tech billionaire, Elon Musk, announced the formation of a new political party in the United States on Saturday, declaring the creation of the “America Party” just one day after floating the idea to his followers on X, the social media platform he owns.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The announcement follows a Twitter poll Musk shared on Friday, in which he asked users whether the United States needs a new political party. While Musk did not share exact polling numbers, he claimed a 2-to-1 majority supported the idea.
Though details remain sparse, Musk’s message appears to tap into growing dissatisfaction with the U.S. two-party system.
His posts included patriotic rhetoric and calls for greater individual freedom, themes that have increasingly featured in his online persona.
It’s unclear whether the “America Party” has been officially registered or whether it will field candidates in upcoming elections. Musk has not yet elaborated on the party’s platform, leadership, or funding sources.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has become an increasingly vocal political figure in recent years, frequently criticizing both Democratic and Republican policies.
