The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has announced a leadership change in Ondo State, with CP Adebowale Lawal appointed as the new Commissioner of Police.
Lawal takes over from CP Wilfred Afolabi, who has now been redeployed to Abuja.
According to PM NEWS, the official handover ceremony took place in Akure on Monday, June 30, with Afolabi expressing gratitude to God, the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the people of Ondo State for their support.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve. In my time here, there’s been progress—no reported kidnapping cases in the last month alone,” Afolabi said. He described his redeployment as part of routine police postings and revealed he had shared key security strategies with his successor.
CP Lawal, now the 46th police commissioner in Ondo, promised to build on his predecessor’s achievements and called on residents to support the command in maintaining peace.
“Security isn’t a job for the police alone. We need everyone’s cooperation,” he said.
Lawal assured the public of his readiness to tackle criminality and work with all stakeholders to ensure the state remains safe.
