The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, has stepped down from his position.

A source within the APC national headquarters, who does not want his name mentioned in print because he is not authorised to speak on the matter, said the National Working Committee, NWC, will announce an acting chairman soon.

Though no reason has been advanced for the sudden resignation of the former Governor of Kano State, it is believed that he took the decision at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the early hours of Friday, June 27.

Signs that all was not well with the occupant of the exalted seat became palpable as his aides were sighted packing his personal belongings from his office at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

As of Friday, details surrounding his resignation remain unclear at press time.

Meanwhile, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad posted on his X handle on Friday, June 27, said, “The National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as confirmed by multiple sources.

“The former National Chairman of our party would be succeeded in acting capacity by one of the party’s national vice chairmen until a substantive chairman is elected at the national convention scheduled for December 2025.”
