A High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday, June 26, sentenced gospel musician Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Daily TRUST reported.

In January, Ajayi had confessed to murdering Adaidu in a fit of anger after she allegedly cheated on him.

He also showed no remorse.

“I didn’t plan to kill her. She is always cheating, she hides most things from me. I discovered she was cheating when I saw her phone, so I got angry seeing her chat with other guys, and that’s why I killed her,” he said.

Delivering his judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki narrated that the prosecuting counsels proved their case beyond every reasonable doubt that the convict killed the victim at his residence.

The judge posited that the defendant claims that he became unconscious after having a good time with Adaidu, and was unconscious when he wrote his confessional statement does not hold water.

Justice Aboki maintained that Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which prescribes death penalty for persons guilty of such an offense.

“The law is clear on this, and the punishment is death. Therefore, the accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging,” Justice Aboki said.
