The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has announced the suspension of his Special Adviser on Research and Planning, Mkor Aondona.
Aondona was suspended after his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged s3xual exploitation and blackmail.
The EFCC had on Saturday announced the arrest of Aondona after multiple female students accused him of cyberbullying, blackmail, and coercion.
According to the anti-graft agency, the victims alleged that the suspended aide demanded s3xual favours in exchange for job placements, secretly recorded the encounters without their consent, and threatened to leak the videos if they refused to continue the s3xual relationship.
Reacting to the development, Governor Alia on Sunday announced Aondona’s immediate suspension, stating that the action was necessary to uphold “integrity, discipline, and accountability” in his administration.
“Any official of my administration found guilty of criminal or ethical misconduct will face the full wrath of the law,” Alia said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
The governor emphasised that public office must be treated as a sacred trust, warning that anyone who undermines public confidence would be shown the way out, according to Naija Lamp reports.
“Public office is a call to serve with honour, transparency, and responsibility. Anyone who deviates from this path will have no place in my government,” Alia warned.
