A Former Councilor in Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Frank Amba Wills-Obong, has described the wave of defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strategic move driven by enlightened state interest.
Wills-Obong made this known on Friday June 20, 2025, during his official defection and Uruan Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Grace Edem, who, alongside her team of Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, Supervisors, and other political aides, renounced their membership of the PDP and pledged allegiance to the APC in their Ward, Northern Uruan Ward 2.
According to Hon. Wills-Obong, a former Chairmanship aspirant in Uruan Local Government Area, the ongoing political realignment inspired by Governor Eno’s broader vision of integrating Akwa Ibom into the national mainstream presents opportunity for the state to attract more development, partnerships, and federal presence.
In her remarks, the Vice Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Grace Edem, commended the resilience and unity of the APC structure in her ward, assuring members of her commitment to grassroots development and inclusive leadership under the party’s progressive banner.
Also Speaking, Zonal Leader of APC, Engr. Umana, who welcomed the new entrants with optimism, described their decision as timely and strategic and also commended the Governor for leading what he called a quiet but purposeful repositioning of the State.
On his part, Ward Chairman, Mr. Inichrist Jonathan, assured the decampees of full integration into the APC structure, assuring that the party is a home for those committed to transformation and result oriented governance.
Traditional ruler and village head of Nung Otu, Obong Bolton, offered royal blessings and called for greater political maturity and mutual respect to deepen development in Uruan and Akwa Ibom at large.
Also Speaking, Retired Permanent Secretary, Elder Eduongho, urged stakeholders to approach politics as a vehicle for progress, and sue for continuous peace and cooperation in the area.
The event was well-attended by Government appointees, Traditional Rulers, Party faithfuls, Clergy, Youth, Men and Women from the area who all called for greater political maturity and mutual respect to deepen development in Uruan and Akwa Ibom at large.
