Sunday June 8, 2025|

The Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno has felicitated with the newly elected Mayor of Islington in London, Cllr Jason Utitofon Jackson, an Akwa Ibom son for making the State proud

In a Letter of Facilitation presented to Cllr Jackson at Islington Town Hall, North London, Governor Eno, represented by the SSA on Protocol, Europe, Mr. Friday Akpan, congratulated the newly elected Mayor of Islington for his historic election as the first black man to assume that office.

He noted that his accomplishment has served as a beacon of hope and encouragement to Akwa Ibom people everywhere in the world, reiterating the essence of hard work to achieve great success in life.

Governor Eno, further commended Cllr Jackson for sustaining the values of hard work, honesty and “I can do spirit” of an average Akwa Ibomites, urging him to serve as a role model for others to emulate.

It will be recalled that Cllr Jason Jackson was last month elected as the first black man to be the Mayor of Islington, and has since been inaugurated.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Hackney, Cllr Jackson studied at City and Islington College and London Metropolitan University, both based in the borough, before completing a Master’s degree in Big Data in Culture and Society at King’s College London. There, he developed a strong interest in artificial intelligence and its potential to benefit all communities.

Alongside his work as a councillor, Cllr Jackson is a founding member of the Black Policy Institute, a think tank that aims to influence national policy and promote greater equity across society.

Cllr Jackson takes over from Cllr Anjna Khurana, who served as Mayor during the past year, supporting Brickworks Community Centre and promoting a message of welcome and community spirit across the borough.
