The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, on Wednesday, June 4, hosted its second annual Awards and Commendations Ceremony at the Police Resource Center, Jabi, Abuja, celebrating exemplary officers whose bravery and professionalism have significantly advanced national security.
Among the evening’s most distinguished honorees was a tactical commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Koko Thompson Ebong, Commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, Unit, Akwa Ibom State.
CSP Ebong was presented with the prestigious Crime Buster of the Year 2024 award in recognition of his outstanding leadership, tactical expertise, and unwavering dedication to combating crime. His strategic operations and resolute service have earned him widespread respect within the Force and across the nation.
The event was formally opened by His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, who represented the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. In his keynote address, Senator Akpabio commended the awardees for their courage and sacrifice, emphasizing that their dedication is instrumental in restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions.
Other police officers who received the same awards were, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Odeyeiywa Oladimeji, Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Imo State, and Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Otu Mark Louis of the Quick Response Unit, Kogi State. These officers were recognized for their exemplary bravery and effectiveness in confronting high-risk criminal threats in their respective jurisdictions.
The ceremony attracted a high-profile audience, including Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, some senators, and eight former Inspectors General of Police, an affirmation of the event’s national significance.
In his acceptance speech, CSP Ebong expressed deep appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force, his colleagues, and his family.
“This award is not just for me. It represents every officer who puts their life on the line each day to protect our country. I am truly honoured and more committed than ever to the cause of justice and public safety,” CSP Ebong said.
The annual Awards and Commendations Ceremony continues to serve as a vital platform for recognizing excellence within the Force, inspiring morale, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to police reform and national security.
