Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno is set to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, with the formal announcement of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, expected on Friday, June 6, 2025, reliable political source reveals.

The looming defection has unsettled Akwa Ibom’s political establishment, as key PDP stakeholders remain unusually silent.

A cross-section of Akwa Ibom people had expressed displeasure over Governor Eno’s plan to join the All Progressives Congress.

The people shouted ‘No’ to his plan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC on Wednesday, June 4, during a Town Square Meeting with the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, where Governor Eno again announced his plans to dump the PDP.

It is understood that the PDP leadership was put on notice few weeks ago but seems to has been caught off guard by the pace of the development.

Prominent figures in the party, including elders, former officeholders, and appointees, have withheld public comment, fuelling speculation about internal discontent and disappointment.

The expected switch comes at a time of growing tension within the governor’s camp.

Unconfirmed local reports indicate that some of his aides—including Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Personal Assistants (PAs)—may not accompany him to the APC.

But sources close to the APC confirm that top party figures, including governors from the South-South region, have concluded plans to travel en masse to Akwa Ibom for the major reception.

The move, if confirmed, would reduce PDP’s control to just ten states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, and Zamfara.
