Sunday June 1, 2025|

The Kano State Government has declared Monday, June 2, a public holiday to honor the memory of young athletes who tragically lost their lives in a fatal auto crash.

The incident, which claimed several lives, occurred as the team was returning from a sports event outside the state. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a great tragedy not just for the sports community but for the entire state.

In a statement released Sunday, the government urged residents to observe the day with prayers for the departed souls and their grieving families. Flags are to be flown at half-mast across the state as a sign of respect.

The affected families will receive government support, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
