30 Die In Niger State Flood, NSEMA Says

Thursday May 29, 2025|

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed no fewer than 30 people died in a devastating flood at Mokwa Local Government Area on Wednesday night.

The agency’s Director General, Ibrahim Hussaini, told reporters the flood was triggered by a heavy downpour that led to extensive damage across several communities.

Hussaini said rescue teams managed to save a woman and her two children who are receiving medical care for injuries and trauma at the Mokwa General Hospital.

“Twenty-one bodies have been recovered so far, and over 10 persons are still unaccounted for,” he stated, noting that search and rescue operations are ongoing.

The worst hit areas include Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa in Mokwa town, where more than 50 homes were swept away, leaving residents homeless and communities in shock.
