NiMet Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert In 14 States

Wednesday May 28, 2025|

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast predicting moderate to heavy rainfall across 14 states from Wednesday, May 28 to Friday, May 30, 2025.

According to NiMet’s bulletin, the states expected to experience significant downpours include Bayelsa, Rivers, parts of Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia, the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger.

The agency also warned that the rains may be accompanied by strong winds and pose a high risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas. Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution, especially on roads prone to surface runoff.

NiMet cautioned the public against driving through flooded roads due to strong undercurrents, and also highlighted other potential hazards such as slippery surfaces and poor visibility, which could disrupt road traffic and increase the likelihood of accidents.
