In a heartwarming gesture ahead of Children’s Day, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has awarded a N25 million cash gift to 15-year-old autistic artist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, for his exceptional feat of setting a Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas in the world.

Kanyeyachukwu, who achieved the record in November 2024, created a 12,304-square-meter masterpiece featuring a vibrant ribbon—the global symbol for autism—surrounded by expressive emojis. The artwork not only stunned the world but also highlighted the boundless creativity and resilience of children living with autism.

Receiving the teenager at her office on Monday, Senator Tinubu commended his extraordinary artistic talent, noting that the cash award was intended to support his continued education and creative growth.

“Mental health challenges occur in many very intelligent children,” she said. “I want to thank the parents for loving him. I also want to use this medium to encourage other parents with special needs children to nurture their gifts.”

The First Lady emphasized the importance of celebrating special needs children, urging families to channel their children’s unique abilities into fulfilling careers.

“Children like Kanye often have a singular passion. It is our job to help them thrive in that area,” she added. “There couldn’t be a better time to recognize Kanye than now, just before Children’s Day.”

Representing the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, described Kanyeyachukwu’s record-breaking artwork as a “beacon of hope.”

“Despite being autistic, his achievement has inspired many young Nigerians,” he said. “It also shows the impact of the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative in giving young talents the chance to shine.”

The First Lady presented Kanyeyachukwu with a dummy cheque of N25 million, alongside gifts and commendations. In return, the young Guinness record holder gifted her an original painting and proudly displayed his official certificate from Guinness World Records.

Kanyeyachukwu’s story continues to inspire millions of Nigerians, proving that with the right support, even the biggest challenges can birth global triumphs.
